Join the Fight

Red River Gorge United (RRGU) is doing everything we can to protect the area from intrusive and destructive developments which are too large and out of scale with available resources. Developments of this type will inevitably harm the Red River Gorge and those local residents that live in the surrounding region. However, we can’t do this alone. No matter if you live in Kentucky or even in the United States, you have a voice and it needs to be heard.

Call Powell Co. Judge Exec. Anderson:

Or call Judge Anderson at (606) 663-2834 and say:

“My name is [YOUR NAME] and I live at [YOUR ADDRESS].

I want to urge Judge Anderson to please pass zoning in Powell County and protect Slade and the Red River Gorge from damaging over-development.

Powell County needs career-path jobs and real economic opportunities that support and enhance the existing ecological and cultural features of the region. The resort proposed by Red River Economic Development (RRED) simply has a footprint so large that unintended negative impacts are inevitable.

Zoning is vital to preserving and guiding positive economic development in Powell County and I ask that you please support any zoning initiative that would prevent the building of excessively-large developments in the region surrounding the Red River Gorge.

Nobody wants the region to turn into Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Please take steps to ensure that remains a reality.”

How can non-locals help?

Contact state-level policy makers and encourage them to support zoning that would limit large developments such as the destination resort proposed by RRED.
